ABSTRACT

This chapter details 63 Lean Enablers for Healthcare Projects. Each Enabler represents a separate project improving a workflow, or care, or an aspect of operations. Each Enabler includes a summary of the main steps of the Lean Healthcare Systems Engineering process used. Each is called a Lean Enabler because it is based on Lean thinking: promoting value while reducing waste, following the well-established methodology. The Lean Enablers are listed for all clinical environments, in the order presented in the Contents discussed. Each Lean Enabler is organized into a table with the following rows: Project Title; Challenge/Waste; Goal/Solution proposed; System of Interest (SoI) and stakeholders; In scope; Externalities; Out of scope; Major risks; Value/Expected benefits; Literature review; and Notes. Challenge/Waste identifies typical challenges and wastes. A challenge is the problem, factor, or environment that prevents success, causes frustrations and burnout, and contributes to wastes. The SoI is the system of people, organizations, and tools of interest.
