ABSTRACT

The development of artificial intelligence (AI) has been progressing at a rapid rate. From health to travel to finance, AI has suddenly become one of the most significant new digital technologies in the early 21st century. AI is essential to some of the most successful digital platforms, such as Face-book, Netflix, Google, and Apple, in terms of market dominance and capitalization, as these platforms garner massive financial profits by utilizing AI. This chapter discusses what people have to contemplate to create a challenging but creative cultural environment when AI and digital platforms, and therefore, the convergence of these two primary actors in cultural production, increase their dominant roles. The unpredictability is furthermore expanding in the COVID-19 era and potentially in the post-COVID-19 era, although we can assume that AI will be intensifying its role in cultural production. To conclude, the increasing role of AI in cultural production does not mean that AI replaces humans.
