ABSTRACT

Psychological processes in organizations can be understood and analysed from a variety of different perspectives. The focus may be placed on the organization as a whole, relations between leadership and employees, relations between different departments or between the different tiers in the hierarchy, the group as a whole, relations between the individual and the group and so forth. Which focus is the most relevant depends on the task at hand. In any case, however, it is worth underscoring the wide range of approaches to choose among. Both the coach or supervisor working with an individual manager and the organizational consultant or manager working with the organization at large is – or should be – aware of how the understanding of an issue can change when it is viewed and examined from a different angle. Clare Huffington (2008) has presented an illustrative case.
