ABSTRACT

Elliot Glassman finished his BArch in 2005, a few years before the 2008 recession. Given the academic work he had produced, his professors encouraged him to go on and pursue a master’s or a doctorate. Tom Lee advises others approaching a similar inflection point to have the courage to trust their own judgement, and not to be afraid of changing course or taking a risk. There is always some risk when change is involved, and the pay-offs and outcomes of answering career inflection-point opportunities are not guaranteed. Inflection points can come about through a new role, self-reinvention or by focusing on other aspects of the profession. Having worked for about 25 years in a few organisations, Randy Guillot separated from the firm for which he was a design partner, which gave him some time to think about what he wanted to do next. Ted Hyman’s architectural education had a strong foundation in engineering and putting buildings together.
