ABSTRACT

The architecture profession is changing, widening, and with new models of practice. The old blue-chip firms will probably exist side by side with more firms involved in fabrication, robotics, prefabrication. ‘The process of design and architecture is constantly evolving, particularly with the advent and influence of AI and parametric digital design,’ says Philip Twiss. Ted Hyman has always encouraged young architects to try everything and anything they think they might be interested in. ‘There are so many challenges in the world, the need for great design solutions is more important than ever,’ says Hyman. AIA’s Code of Ethics requires architects to pay it forward and give back by teaching and helping the next generation. The role of the mid-career architect in this transition is to serve as a bridge between the generation before and the generation after. Mid-career architects know it is not enough to just show up and do the work.
