It is really important that professionals understand there are multiple routes within any career, sometimes leaving and returning at different stages. There are multiple paths and multiple outcomes which are dependent on personal experience and skills as well as opportunity and the occasional bit of luck, says Philip Twiss. Professionals need different career paths at different times to stay engaged. Virginia E Marquardt reminds us that one’s path at mid-career can continue on into an encore career.
