ABSTRACT

We conclude the book by discussing recent developments in Hà Nội's jazz scene during the Covid-19 global pandemic. Like almost every country in the world, Vietnam was hit hard by the pandemic. All across the global jazz world, lockdowns, social distancing, and crowd limitation, while proving to be effective public health measures to counter community spread of the virus, have proved to be the bane of the performing arts. Jazz, centered in the intimate confines of the jazz club, bars, and restaurants, and occasionally presented in concert halls that can accommodate a larger crowd, is perhaps the first to be hit when these measures kicked in during the pandemic. How have Vietnamese jazz musicians in Hà Nội been coping with Covid-19? Is there hope for jazz in Hà Nội?
