ABSTRACT
Chapter one explains the theoretical background of the relevant issues, including a discussion of the concepts of patriarchy and women’s subjugation and the reason why honour based violence is an issue of gender-based violence. Issues related to honour based violence such as victims, survivors, perpetrators, religion and migration are also analysed. Furthermore, as well as acknowledging the shortcomings of laws and importance of education, the relevance of human rights law into honour based violence is examined and highlighted. This chapter also sets out the different forms of honour based violence, and these forms are then looked at in each of the following chapters.
