ABSTRACT

Chapter four looks at forced marriage and, again, starts with a good definition and discussion of the term. The difference from arranged marriage is discussed, with the caveat that there is often a fine line between these two. Moreover, both can infringe on the victim’s autonomy and their human rights. As with the previous chapters, a holistic approach and the importance of education on gender equality and human rights is stressed. This education should start from early childhood, but there are also issues with educating all layers of the criminal justice system: policy, judges and prosecutors and with educating policy makers and other organisations.
