ABSTRACT

The introduction is divided into two parts. The first is concerned with the basic definition, purpose and methodology of the book. Why this book? More importantly, what is unique that this book addresses? This part also expresses the meaning of the term “city-lit,” and how it is different from the urban literary postulations made so far in other arguments. Next is a briefing about the temporal categorization of the book, and an overview of the socio-political upheavals that necessitates chronicling. How has the city evolved from Independence to the immediate past? What are changes endured by the citizenry? How does the literature respond to it in a heterogeneous voice? The second part is a more detailed overview of the individual chapters, with distinctive thematic line for each of them, priming the reader for the analysis soon to follow.
