ABSTRACT

This final chapter presents an overview of the last generations of Del Riccio, who lived during the following centuries. It also recapitulates the story of the family during the sixteenth century and the most important issues related to its social climbing: the “secular cult” of Michelangelo and its use to foster political messages, the cultural mediations taken place between different cities of the Italian peninsula, the role of different members of the family as “mercator sapiens”. Finally, the Del Riccio family will be proposed as a model case study to follow the evolution of a Florentine family in the early-modern period.
