ABSTRACT

In this chapter I explore the relationship between Sexual Grounding Therapy (SGT) and science. I include my own experience as a student of neuroscience, referring to such topics as psychoneuroimmunology and the difficulty of assessing psychotherapeutic methods that are difficult to operationalise, as well as the practical and ethical difficulty of researching psychotherapy generally. I mention critics of research into mental illness, such as Terry Lynch, and non-mainstream scientists, such as Bruce Lipton and Stephen Porges, whose work is in sympathy with some of the ideas in SGT. The Foundation for Sexual Grounding Therapy (FSGT) scientific committee is mentioned as is the research fund which has been established at the Radboud University in Nijmegen, specifically to research SGT.
