ABSTRACT

In Chapter 7, “Taking your Coaching Approach Out Into The World,” we emphasize opportunities for taking a coaching mindset and skill set out into the broader world for positive impact and change. We believe that a coaching mindset can impact the way you show up in the world more broadly. It can reduce tension around political polarization at your next dinner with your extended family, enable you to make and communicate decisions at work that are met with less resistance, and help you to negotiate with less conflict the next time your teenager is asking you for something. We share a variety of cases and examples to illustrate how a coaching mindset and skills can enhance interactions beyond the bounds of work. We also revisit and elaborate on concepts shared earlier in the book with a lens for helping our reader infuse these into their day-to-day life.

Chapter 7 Questions:

How can coaching skills be applied outside of work?

How can a coaching mindset be applied to societal challenges?

What should I be aware of as I start to incorporate coaching in my day-to-day life?

Chapter 7 Key Idea:

Applying a coaching mindset and coaching skills in your day-to-day can make you more effective in a range of situations – even in navigating those conversations about politics with relatives at the holiday dinner table. At scale, a coaching mindset can create a better world.
