ABSTRACT

It is concluded that relationships are crucial for children’s development. However, number, form and function of these relationships differ according to cultural/contextual demands. Attachment theory is just one possible way, which itself poses further conceptual and methodological problems, even when restricted to (Western) middle class. Finally, teachers voice their concerns with the current practice, yet overall maintain a positive attitude towards their profession.
