ABSTRACT

Attachment researchers claim that attachment theory has undergone substantial changes during the past 50+ years since its first formulation. Critics, on the other hand, question this evaluation, claiming that the basic premises have not been touched. What has changed is that the range of attachment theory has been broadened from children’s socio emotional development to a life span perspective of development in general. Other topics have been added, e.g. psychopathology, brain development, etc. Attachment is unique in the science landscape of not having modified and adapted its assumptions with available knowledge.
