ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses ethical questions arising from the normative application of the monocultural attachment theory to diverse cultural groups in diverse cultural environments. First, the problems arising when using the criteria of attachment theory to the evaluation of children belonging to different cultures are used with the example of children’ s family drawings. Second the widespread practice of applying principles of attachment theory to interventions in communication patterns in families in diverse cultures is problematized. Third, apparent ethical problems are discussed when attachment theory is generally serving as a basis for custody decisions. Finally, the educational practice that has been laid out in previous chapters is scrutinized with respect to ethical implications.
