ABSTRACT
This chapter is dedicated to outcomes of intense language contact that give rise to new languages such as Creoles, pidgins, and mixed languages. It also presents African urban youth languages that are being used today in highly multilingual settings. What are these languages and how were they formed? Are they outcomes of language contact, unlike those investigated in this book, or are they formed by the same linguistic processes?
