ABSTRACT

For the model human being that Jean-Jacques Rousseau is going to make by education, i.e. by education along lines which at his time were his own and revolutionary, he hypothesizes an orphan. No doubt the fact that his own mother died in giving birth to him was partly the reason for this scheme and gave him an emotional drive in writing the book which must have helped a great deal, as well as giving him a deep understanding of many of the problems that this imaginary boy would face in his childhood and adolescence.
