ABSTRACT

One of the biographers of Jean-Jacques Rousseau refers to his ‘unfortunate propensity’ to women. And even Guéhenno in discussing 24Jean-Jacques mentions such names as Mademoiselle de Vulson and Mademoiselle Goton, and elaborates quite a bit regarding Mademoiselle Serre, in some doubt as to the veracity of the passage in the Confessions concerning Mademoiselle Serre, which we quote later in this chapter.
