ABSTRACT
In terms of their physical character and intensity, the storms of 1969 were similar in many ways to those of 1938. And yet the pattern of damage to both slopes and drainage systems was very different. Thus the storms of 1969 provide an excellent standard of comparison with 1938, and a measure of the dramatic changes that had occurred in Los Angeles County in the intervening 30 years.
