ABSTRACT
Taxation is a difficult subject to discuss objectively, due to emotional reactions on the part of those being taxed and defensive reactions on the part of those doing the taxing. If one accepts the premise that governments are created to provide services to citizens that they could not otherwise provide themselves - and that those services must be paid for - then one has a point of departure from which to begin discussion.
