ABSTRACT
This chapter looks to explain the behaviours online of children and young people with attachment issues and how this affects their choices in the real world and how this plays out online. The chapter considers neurobiological mechanisms of eye gaze and ocular distances to screens, linking this back to attachment, eye-gaze distances of infants and mothers and the production of neuropeptides and neurochemicals such as oxytocin. The chapter introduces another component of the polyvagal theory, using neuroception and feelings of safety to posit the false zone of digital communication using this theoretical framework.
