ABSTRACT

This chapter talks of the changes that were accommodated within the policies and reports of the healthcare sector in the post-liberalization phase that also witnessed the gradual retreat of the welfare state and the intrusion of big capital in health services. The World Bank became the prime player in determining the healthcare reforms in developing countries. The chapter also discusses the report of the High-Level Expert Group towards the development of Universal Health Coverage that intends to bring about an insurance-based healthcare system strengthening the entry of private capital.
