ABSTRACT

Many children, including children who participate in athletics, have underdeveloped cores due to restricted movement. In order to develop a strong core system, children need to move their body in all directions, for hours at a time. Just like with exercising, they need to do this more than just once a week in order to reap the benefits. Executive function helps with focus, planning, organizing, and other skills that students have difficulty with who are diagnosed with ADD and ADHD. Children naturally start fidgeting in order to get the movement their body so desperately needs and is not getting enough of to “turn their brain on.” The strong back core muscles even support our abs and help assist us with actions such as sitting up at a desk, bending to tie our shoe or reaching up to take something off a shelf.
