ABSTRACT

The greatest change in education over the past 30 years has been the use of technology. As late as the 1990s, there was still not much technology in the average classroom. Technology has actually helped create the sedentary learning environment that exists in education. While technology has improved civilization, maybe too much of a good thing has started to cause some unwanted side effects. Excessive screen time appears to impair brain structure and function. While technology does serve an important purpose in our lives and in education, it is critical that we focus on incorporating activity with technology use to help offset some of the negative effects sedentary use and overuse. Integrating technology with fitness should also be a focus for the overall health of our students.
