ABSTRACT

It is essential that we work on place value understanding with students in small guided math groups. We have to take them through the cycle of concrete, pictorial and abstract activities. We need to make sure that students understand, can explain and appropriately use the various models for representing teen numbers. It is essential that we pull groups and work with students in their zone of proximal development. We then follow this work up with workstations and homework that correlates with the concepts they are working on.
