ABSTRACT
From the Bible to the present, hope for universal peace often follows periods of war and destruction. Survivors of the ruined kingdoms of Israel and Judah concluded that for them as for humanity as a whole, peace was best. Peace is invariably linked with reverence for the natural world and to environmental renewal.
