ABSTRACT
Environmental issues as a major literary concern begin with the Industrial Revolution. Poets of the Romantic movement, angered by the catastrophic impact of industry and capitalism, especially upon the poor, tend to see Nature as a moral good, desecrated by human hands. Poems discussed in this chapter include Blake’s Jerusalem, Goethe’s Faust, and Wordsworth’s The Prelude.
