ABSTRACT
This chapter explores environmental issues in post-war novels by Achebe, Dangaremgba, Mahfouz, Lispector, and Coetzee. Each illustrates the continued relevance of the Bible (in the case of Mahfouz, the Koran), particularly for the poor in corrupt, impoverished, or war-torn states.
