ABSTRACT

– The final chapter summarises the key findings of the empirical analysis and responds to the key arguments and questions that guided the research. It concludes how and where member states play a crucial role in shaping in EU–NATO cooperation, primarily through intra-state tensions and disputes, their pursuit of national preferences concerning the two organisations and their overall contributions to the EU and NATO. The chapter also makes implications concerning the usefulness and applicability of the set of features of interorganisational relations and the typology of member states for areas of cooperation beyond the EU–NATO relationship. Lastly, it draws conclusions and formulates implications of the findings for the future of EU–NATO cooperation.
