ABSTRACT

This chapter explains the importance of applying a structured approach to implementing process improvement. To overcome the continuous need for new business process improvement projects, organizations establish a continuous process improvement program within the organization to change the processes as the business changes. Process performance management is a critical component of management and a prerequisite for a continuous process improvement program. BPM-passionate people inside an organization have been successful in selling the BPM concept to senior management and have been provided with funding and support to commence a large-scale BPM activity. The “common sense” will rely totally upon the experience of the individuals who are executing the BPM activity. This can often result in forgetting or missing crucial steps, such as alignment with strategic objectives, benefit identification and realization, and organizational change management. Assuming a successful deployment of the BPMS software suite, which can take considerable time and effort, the requirement for skilled administrators and developers immediately emerges.
