ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines bottom-up and top-down approaches and describes the advantages and disadvantages of each approach. It understands some of the complexities of each approach and also understands which of the two approaches has a much higher probability of success. If it is a passionate person who sees the benefits that business transformation (BPM) can bring to an organization, then he or she will need to “sell” the idea inside the organization to obtain the funding and resources. Usually, a pilot project will be selected as a means to convince the management of the benefits of BPM. With more projects come a growing momentum and internal credibility to enable BPM to spread organization wide. Hopefully, it will reach a point where the internal credibility, understanding, expertise, and support are enough to enable BPM to flip from being bottom-up to top-down driven.
