ABSTRACT
The mandate of the Ministry of Housing in Bahrain and that of the Physical Planning Directorate in particular extends to the planning of housing—indeed, of human settlements. Effectively, the Ministry is the lead public agency in respect of national physical planning in Bahrain. The Bahrain Telecommunications Company (BATELCO) plans to install a similar Intergraph system by the end of 1986, although it will probably be based on the MicroVAX II rather than the older VAX series. Its purpose would be to help with the management of the telephone networks and facilities owned and operated by BATELCO. Since 1979, the Central Computing Bureau in the Central Statistical Office has been providing centralized computing facilities for governmental agencies. Training and support will clearly place a considerable burden on the Information Section, especially in the early days; provision should be made for strengthening its resources in this respect.
