ABSTRACT

Computer systems have been installed in both the Department of Town Planning and Housing in the southern part of Cyprus and in the Offices of Town Planning and Housing in the northern part. The principal programme available on the system is a custom-written COBOL programme for monitoring departmental processing of applications for development-control approval. BASIC programming is unlikely to become a common activity on any of the existing computer systems. Only one computer application to planning is currently in operation; and that is the Housing Data Bank running on the Sord system. An ambitious scheme — a sophisticated management system for an estimated 15,000 development-control applications per year — awaits implementation on the NCR system, as soon as there is statutory authority for it. The NCR system is to be used primarily for processing applications for development-control approval on a national basis. Commercial packages for the Compustar are available from the local dealer, including industry-standard programmes for database.
