ABSTRACT

According to one estimate, there are currently operating in Burma three or four mainframe computers, several minicomputers and about 30 microcomputers. The range of possible computer applications to the management of human settlements is extensive. The purpose of this case is to identify and discuss some possible priorities for computer applications, first, within the Urban and Regional Planning Division in the Housing Department and, then, in other Divisions of the Housing Department and the Rangoon City Development Committee. The Land Department is the principal governmental agency responsible for land management in the Rangoon metropolitan area. The Estate Management Division in the Housing Department is the principal governmental agency responsible for the administration of public housing. Departmental accounts would also benefit from computerization, particularly insofar as control of cash balances, consolidation of branch-office accounts, and payroll are concerned.
