ABSTRACT

You can decide what type of remote experience you are going to have by making the choices and taking the actions that work best for you. Slow deliberate choices can lead to a humanized remote experience. Among the most important choices you make in the remote experience is the boundaries you set and maintain. Setting boundaries involves defining what is best for you. Even when you can’t control every aspect of your circumstances, you can choose your own boundaries. Ultimately, the quality of your remote experience is determined by your mindset, a collection of mental attitudes and beliefs that influence everything you do, feel, think, and experience. Remote experiences present many new challenges that can get in the way of feeling safe and comfortable, understanding others, and attaining a sense of belonging. But with a growth mindset, you can take on these challenges and learn from them. You can persist when things are challenging and find effective ways to improve your remote experiences. The chapter ends with a case study of a team leader, illustrating the challenges she faced and the strategies she implemented to improve her remote experiences.
