ABSTRACT

In the second decade of the 21st century, despite making significant changes at home and abroad, China has more to be done as it enters a “period of historic opportunity” toward self-development. With more international actors participating in the process of global governance, the focus of a nation-state has shifted from relative growth of its domestic power to the combined increase of power among multiple countries. Meanwhile, since a multipolar system has replaced the traditional bipolar system, countries, especially emerging ones, should adjust their mindset under the new trend of global changes. Therefore, this chapter will conduct a preliminary study on this changing period to improve China’s understanding of the new global governance.
