ABSTRACT

The international society is not an illusory community constructed only through cultural consensus. On the contrary, it represents a supranational political community based on economic foundations, shared identities, international interactions, etc. and has made generous contributions to the formulation and maintenance of international rules and regulations. With the twists and turns of economic globalization, the Group of Twenty (G20) has been established as a temporary economic coordination mechanism for developed countries and emerging economies to solve global issues. With the transition of the global power structure, it has gradually become a significant part of economic governance. This chapter introduces the rise of the G20, its motivations, and the related political consequences toward global governance.
