ABSTRACT
This chapter is an introduction to the topic of employee engagement and to this book. I explain why understanding engagement at work matters to both academicians and practitioners, and why this book is essential for that understanding. I introduce the human side of engagement by sharing a number of personal stories from interviews with employees around the globe. The chapter concludes with a high-level road map of the book.
