ABSTRACT

Employee engagement is considered a positive state and one that organizations desire of every employee. The goal, thus far, with engagement has been to get as much as possible. For those employees who do not appear engaged, leadership and organizational interventions have been and are being designed to fix this perceived lack of engagement. But is it really beneficial to have everyone engaged, all the time? Is there a dark side to engagement such that there are times when it is not in the organization's best interest to have engaged employees? This chapter explores that question.
