ABSTRACT

This chapter describes how we can work with discourses and team practices to support collaboration and empowerment. The aim is to change our practices, from professional-led treatments and research only, to collaborative patient-professional-led treatments and research. Stories describe how hierarchical languages and conferences cultures can be changed to acknowledge that all have unique knowledge and are worthy of being in the room. We acknowledge that local context influences our work so therefore, any guide, manual, or treatment method must be adjusted to local contexts. We use a collaborative treatment approach of two therapists in all sessions, since the burden of psychopathology must be met by an equal amount of professional support, and families referred to our team have complex problems. Stories illustrate team rules for co-therapists, the co-creation of knowledge about competence, dreams and hope before inquiring about difficulties, and how to always invite patient feedback.
