ABSTRACT

In this chapter, two therapists share the responsibility of one case, preferably with different backgrounds and education (that is, nurse, psychologist, psychiatrist, pedagogue, social worker). The family is invited to share their thoughts about the reasons for the referral and their expectations and hopes for the treatment. A mutually arranged time is set for the first clarifying conversation. The clarifying phase concludes when a shared understanding of the goals/hopes/visions for the treatment has been achieved and a plan for the treatment course has been written and agreed to by therapists and family. The working phase comprises sequels of five or six conversations, each ending with a taking stock conversation, based on the family's visions. The family therapy course is often concluded by one to three concluding conversations depending on the needs of the family.
