Stories create and carry the meaning of our lives. This chapter introduces storytelling as a practice and provides activities and ideas for creating and telling stories together. It begins with a discussion of the meaning of stories designed to facilitate thinking about who, when, and where stories have been meaningful in shaping worldviews. This chapter also introduces a set of guiding principles for community-engaged writing that weave throughout the book including examples of community-engagement challenges. Activities in this chapter ask readers to identify motivations for storytelling and think through questions of power and authority in stories alone and together and includes several writing exercises. The chapter concludes with an overview of the book and ideas for how to use it.
