ABSTRACT

This chapter introduces the conception of religious literacy promoted by the Georgia 3Rs (Ga3Rs) Program and used in our program evaluation, namely religious literacy as conceptualized by Prof. Diane Moore, the faculty director of Religion and Public Life at Harvard Divinity School. Additionally, this chapter clarifies the notion of religious liberty inherent in the program and promoted by the Religious Freedom Center (RFC). The RFC borrows its views of religious liberty from the three key principles of the Williamsburg Charter: emphasis on the inalienable rights guaranteed by the First Amendment; the reconstruction of an American public square that hinges on shared responsibility to protect those rights, even in disagreement; and communication about disagreements from a place of respect rather than conflict.
