ABSTRACT

This chapter assumes that, based on an assessment, conditions are favorable for a collaborative governance process. This is where the definitional norms meet the realities of practice. This chapter seeks to help collaborative governance groups answer the guiding question: How is the group best organized to achieve its desired outcomes? This chapter first explores each of the core elements of designing and organizing a collaborative governance group and how they relate to both the definitional norms and collaborative dynamics. Then, the chapter considers how these elements are formed into working agreements to guide the group in its work. Finally, the chapter discusses some special considerations for collaborative systems.
