ABSTRACT

This chapter examines Pope Francis’ seminal writings on peace, social justice, and the common home, that is, Laudato Si’ (2015) and Fratelli Tutti (2020). The main influence on Pope Francis’ life has been the life of Francis of Assisi, and the ongoing efforts for an ecological peace between those who destroy the planet and those who see themselves as stewards of creation. Strong issues for peace remain for Pope Francis, whose advocacies and endeavours reflect his desire for and faith in the possibility of a world to emerge that nurtures and cherishes social justice, a just world economic order, as well as the fraternal universal humanity. Thus, following from the long-established social doctrine of the Church, Pope Francis advocates that without justice and a just social order there could be no peace.
