ABSTRACT

In Chapter 6 we elaborate on what social ownership means and does not mean. We explain concretely how worker councils would be formed, manage themselves, and perhaps be disbanded. We discuss the pros and cons of balancing jobs for empowerment and desirability. We discuss what incentives there would be for people to work hard and effectively, addressing motivational, static, and dynamic efficiency in turn. We discuss incomes other than the income people earn from work and how saving and borrowing could be handled. And finally, we discuss the role federations play in expressing demands for public goods. In all these regards we present and respond at length to questions and objections others have raised.
