ABSTRACT

Robot ethics is linked to the development, design and application of intelligent robots in society. Moral philosophy has focused on morality and ethics related to humans, and sometimes to animals, but never to machines. This chapter examines the following question: what is the nature of the problems concerning the ethics of artificial intelligence? One ethical defence for developing war robots is that they may deter a potential enemy, preventing the break out of a war. The intelligent war robots will thus be highly lethal weapons, designed to take out any enemy or hostile installation with a high degree of precision. To consider people based on technology’s development, especially in relation to intelligent robots, does something to the view we have of ourselves. Medical ethics is changing in step with changes in technology. The technology that broke through during the first industrialization also changed medical ethics.
