ABSTRACT

André du Laurens (1558–1609), was a physician from the south of France who rose to be a personal physician to King Henry IV of France in 1606. He was the author of numerous books on medicine, including Discours de la conservation de la veuë: des maladies melancoliques: des catarrhes, & de la vieillesse printed in 1594. It is interesting that du Laurens chose to consider the issue of melancholy alongside opthalmological and gerontological medical conditions.
