ABSTRACT

THE next morning early, Mr. Mordaunt ordered the carriage, which he very seldom used himself, that he might perform his promise in escorting Rosella; and whilst they were at the breakfast-table, old Philip entered to tell his Lady that Mrs. Cressy was extremely sorry she could not let her have her chariot for he morning, as she was engaged to go to the review; 419 but she would send round to her friends to endeavour to procure a carriage; – and Mrs. Cressy hoped her mother would have the goodness to excuse the omission of writing her answer, as she was occupied in dressing. Rosella looked distressed; and Mr. Mordaunt, coolly desiring his sister to inform Mrs. Cressy that her application to her friends would not be necessary, immediately ordered a post-chaise.
